TALL TALES, LOST TRAILS & HEROES
|Arizona has been uniquely blessed in the past 30 years or so by having Dolan Ellis as its Official State Balladeer. This multitalented guitarist, singer and songwriter has taken his role seriously, producing hundreds of ballads that tell fascinating stories of the State's history with drama and humor.
A balladeer is a troubadour, a poet who composes music, sings songs, writes poems ...then takes it to the people of the land. Dolan does all that and more. He is an avid photographer, accomplished musician, 4-wheel drive enthusiast, explorer, and dynamic performer. Dolan has a feel for Arizona that very few people have and, what's more important, he is able to express it though his music.
The subject matter in Dolan's songs and ballads are fascinating and passionately reveal the history of this grand state. His performances leave you with hopes reborn, as he musically and visually captures the history and beauty of Arizona and the west.
I have known Dolan for close to 20 years and can tell you he's also a nice guy and I guarantee his albums are worth their weight in gold.
|This is Dolan's seventh solo album. Coupled with the five albums he made as a member of the New Christy Minstrels, this makes a total of twelve albums recorded during his long-lasting and still active career. As for his latest CD Ellis said, “It has taken decades of exploring, traveling, researching and just plain old sittin’ around and thinkin’ about it all, in order to write the songs for this new release. It is very gratifying to know that I have the songs down.”
There's a song in here about the guy who got into his biplane & bombed the wrong side of the Mexican Border...another about the little known but terribly harsh "Devil's Highway," and a song dealing with that most famous Apache warrior, Geronimo.
